Carmichael finished with a game-high 27 points, making 11 of her 15 shots and five of her eight 3-point attempts. Gallup, who connected on five treys herself, added 23 points.Janee Young's 20 points led the Bulldogs.
In other first-round WAC women's action, Kim Daniel scored 21 points to lead Texas-El Paso over cold-shooting Texas Christian 63-49, Claudia Brassard tallied 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead Southern Methodist over Wyoming 69-55, and Abby Garchek's 18 points helped New Mexico topple Tulsa 64-54.
BYU (14-13) now advances to Wednesday's quarterfinals to meet instate rival Utah (21-4) for the third time this season, with the Cougars and 21st-ranked Utes having split their regular-season series.
