The Mountain States Business Conditions Index fell 3.2 points in February to 56.4, according to a monthly report by a Creighton University economics professor.

Ernie Goss said the decline was mostly due to weakness in the export sector of the three states tracked in the study, Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.Goss surveys purchasing managers in the three states to produce the index, which he says is a leading economic indicators of the region's economy.

He said the region's price index of 61.2 indicates that inflation is not a significant concern at this time. The production index dropped from 66.4 to 64.5 in February. The index for Utah came in at 55.4, down from 60 in January.
