A man convicted last month of child abuse has been charged with witness tampering.

Todd Shontel West, 25, was convicted on one count of reckless child abuse after a two-day trial last month.The new charge says West contacted a witness before the trial and threatened her, Assistant Deputy Iron County Attorney Karla Staheli said. The witness, a friend of the family, testified at the trial.

West will have a bench trial (where the judge makes the final decision) March 30 on the new charges. West will be sentenced March 16 for child abuse.
