The Oquirrh Park Fitness Center won't be getting a new executive director.

But it will get a new general manager, probably within the next two to three months.Trustees of the Salt Lake County Regional Service Area, which oversees the fitness center, changed the title that will be given to their top administrator last week as they tweaked the final draft of a new job description.

That description will be used in their nationwide search to replace former executive director David Howick, who was fired by the board of trustees Feb. 7.

Trustee Tony Bueno said Friday the service area already has received several applications for the post, including one from a candidate who lives in Orlando, Fla.

The recreation district officially will begin advertising the position this week, and the deadline for applications will be April 10.

Candidates must at least have a bachelor's degree plus experience in recreation-related fields, but a master's degree is preferred in public administration, business or recreation management.

The salary for the position will range between $45,000 and $70,000 a year, depending on experience and qualifications, and trustees say they expect a large field of candidates to apply.

Applications will be screened by a four-member search committee, which will pick six finalists.

Bueno, who is on the committee, said trustees will interview at least six finalists before deciding on a new general manager.
