A man who attacked, threatened and raped an elderly woman has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
James Davis, 42, broke into the home of the woman, now 91, on Dec. 19. He raped her and threatened to kill her if she didn't give him money. The woman had $21."I'm a man and I'm responsible for what I did," Davis told 2nd District Judge W. Brent West last week as the woman sat nearby in a wheelchair.
"I didn't mean to hurt anybody. I do apologize to the lady and her family.
"I'm not some animal, sir, despite what the prosecution says. I do have feelings. I just went down the wrong path," Davis said before being sentenced on charges of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.
During his confession to police, Davis said he picked the woman's home at random. He blamed the crimes on a binge of alcohol and drugs.
