The three decided to form a new band. Doucette thought of the name Matchbox 20, which he originally wanted to name a clothing line. The name stuck with the band, which hooked up with producer Matt Serletic, who also worked with Collective Soul - another Atlanta-based band.

Matchbox 20's demo tapes caught the attention of Atlantic/-Lava Records, and in a few months, the band's debut album, "Yourself or Someone Like You," was released.

Thanks the the singles "Push" and "3 a.m." Matchbox 20 quickly became the flavor of the year in the latter part of 1997.
