The Queen of Soul still lives in the Motor City, and she's not about to move away from her hometown.

"I like the camaraderie of the people," Aretha Franklin says in the March 2 issue of Time magazine. "It's a real community."Living in Michigan hasn't kept her from working, however. She appears in the recently released film "Blues Brothers 2000." And Franklin's first new album in seven years - "A Rose Is Still a Rose" - is scheduled to be released March 10.

Reviews say her voice sounds better than it has in years. The reason?

"I stopped smoking in 1991," she said. "It helped my voice tremendously. The clarity and everything. The range even increased."
