Andrew Monks' comments about women in the military ("Young Voices," Deseret News, Feb. 17) are woefully mistaken.
They assume two things: all men are the same and all women are the same. This is stereotyping, this is sexism, this is arrogance.I spent 23 years as an Army Airborne Infantry officer. I commanded a paratroop company.
During my Airborne training in the spring of 1973, one of the trainees stress-fractured a leg. The trainee told no one and finished the training, making the five-mile runs and completing the parachute jumps. She displayed a courage and endurance few men could.
I suggest Mr. Monks visit an Army post rather than the local theater (and taking as authority Demi Moore in "G.I. Jane").
