As parents of Timpview High School swimmers, we want to publicly acknowledge the members of our community who helped make it possible for our children to prepare for the Utah high school 4A State Swimming Championships at BYU. All three of our children, Analyn, Christian, and Rebecca, represent Timpview and Provo city; all three are very competitive in their events and are key swimmers on their respective boys' and girls' teams.
First, we thank the older citizens of our community who participate in Provo's water aerobics program at 4:00 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. After some discussion, these folks gave up part of their pool space so Analyn, Christian and Rebecca could work out a little longer in order to build the base they need to swim competitively. Thanks to these seniors for their support.Second, we thank pool manager Sherm Miller and his staff for their willingness to be flexible in helping make the opportunity work.
Third, we especially want to thank Provo Parks and Recreation Director Roger L. Thomas for his efforts in facilitating the extra swim time, working to make sure all of the parties were on-board, and ensuring good communication between the parties involved. We trust that Roger's dedication and efforts will not go unnoticed by his superiors.
Finally, as Provo parents and citizens, we believe it is time for Provo city to build on Roger's efforts and germinate a competitive swimming program for Provo's interested citizens. We trust that the goodwill and cooperative spirit that has begun to develop over the last several months will produce additional opportunities for productive and diplomatic dialogue, creative facility use, and planning and budgeting for the construction of the additional facilities Provo so badly needs.
