Vern Alfred Handley, age 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother passed away Thursday, February 19, 1998 after a brief illness.

He was born July 10, 1920 in Butlerville, Utah, a son of George Alfred and May Farrell Handley. He married Mabel Webster, July 15, 1938 in Butlerville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He lived in Layton for the last 20 years. He was reared and educated in the Salt Lake Valley. He is retired from Hill Air Force Base. He is a high priest in the LDS Church and a member of the Oak Forest 2nd Ward. He loved his family and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time at Bear Lake.He is survived by his wife of 59 years; three sons, G. Brent Handley (Jane), Syracuse, Utah; Floyd D. Handley (Helen), Bradford, Pennsylvania; Bradden Vern Handley (Kris), West Valley City, Utah; one daughter, Cynthia L. Shehan (David), Layton, Utah; one son-in-law, R. Kent Brown, Washington State; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, G. Kenneth Handley, Salt Lake City, Utah; Harold Handley, St. George, Utah. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen Brown.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, February 21, 1998 at the Layton Oak Forest 2nd Ward Chapel, 2250 East 2300 No., Layton. Friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Rd. and Saturday 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
