Authorities are conducting a homicide investigation following the discovery of a young American Indian woman's body in the Arizona Strip.

The woman's remains were found by Littlefield, Ariz., residents collecting firewood Monday afternoon just off U.S. 91, about eight miles south of the Utah line.She appeared to have died from blows to the head, said Mohave County, Ariz., sheriff's spokesman Steve Johnson.

Her body was the third to be found in the area in recent months.

On Nov. 22, police found the body of Amy Britt, 29, of Ansely, Neb., on Old Highway 91 at Utah Hill, 10 miles north of the border. She was not identified until early February.

The body of Anthony Ray Edwards, 38, of Scenic, Ariz., was found Feb. 5 near Old Highway 91 about seven miles north of the border. He died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities believe there is no connection between the three deaths.
