Jack Emmett Hill, age 62, passed away February 17, 1998 at his home of brain cancer.

He was born on June 11, 1935 in Ogden, Utah to Fred LeRoy and Millie Richeson Hill. Jack attended Quincy Elementary and Lewis Junior High and graduated from Ogden High School. Growing up he was active in band, basketball, baseball, and church activities. Two years of voluntary military service took him to California, Washington, Germany, and France. Jack served as a full-time missionary in the Swiss-Austrian Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also was a graduate of Weber State College.He married Karen Alvord on June 9, 1960 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The parents of two children, they blessed their family of a son and a daughter with much joy and love. Jack worked for Hercules Powder Company, United Oil and Kennecott Copper Corp. Thirty-one years of labor for Kennecott Copper's Magna Smelter as operator, mason, and millwright provided the necessities and luxuries of life for his family.

Jack served continuously in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. He was the bishop of the Spencer 3rd Ward at the time of his illness. He also served in the Sunday School, Elder's Quorum, Activities Committee, Stake Mission, Young Men's Organization, and extensively in the Scouting program. He also served in the bishopric as executive secretary, financial clerk, bishop's counselor, and as a high councilor.

He blessed his family with a love of the outdoors as an avid backpacker, camper, hunter, and fisherman. He knew well the mountains of Utah and Yellowstone, particularly the High Uintas, and climbed to the top of King's Peak.

A love of travel took Jack and his family touring through the Intermountain West, Pacific Coast, the Southeast, Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska, the Middle East and Israel, and along the Mormon Trail with the sesquicentennial wagon trains.

Survivors include his wife, Karen; their children and grandchildren, Brian J. (Karen) Hill and Les, Leezanna, Mariah, and Kalli Hill, all of Kearney, Nebraska; and Natalie (Mark) Casper and Chelsie, Chalay, and Caitlin Casper, all of West Jordan, Utah; brother, Fred LeRoy (Shirley) Hill Jr., of Roy, Utah; in-laws, Paul and Arlene Alvord and Ross and Shelley Alvord, of Salt Lake; and Scott and Jackie Alvord, of Sedona, Arizona; nieces, nephews, and many friends. Jack is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will he held Saturday, February 21, 1998, 11 a.m. at the Magna Central Stake Center, 8181 West 3320 South. Friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m. at the Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West 2700 South, and Saturday 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment: North Ogden Ben
