A. Denese Milner Wecker, died on February 15th, at the UCLA Medical Center from complications following transplant surgery.
Born in Wellington, Utah she spent most of her adult life in Southern California, living in Fountain Valley the last fifteen years. She married Donald Wecker January 22, 1950. She was a graduate of UCLA and earned her Masters Degree at Cal State Long Beach. She taught Political Science at both Cypress and Saddleback Community Colleges.Always active in civic work she was past President of the League of Women Voters, Central Orange County Area, as well as Leagues in Mobile, AL. and Phoenix, AZ. She sponsored and acted as moderator at numerous candidate forums and political debates; and frequently appeared on local television explaining the ballot propositions.
She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many leadership positions at both the ward and stake level including Primary president, Young Women's president, and most recently as the Public Affairs Chairman for the Huntington Beach Stake. She was also a representative on the Fountain Valley Coordinating Council and worked with the SHIP program for the homeless. She instituted and managed the annual Family Week Art Contest for the Fountain Valley elementary schools. She was active in Girl Scouts, forming the first integrated troop in Alabama. She was also a CPR instructor for the Red Cross.
Denese is survived by her husband, Donald, three daughters; Gyorge Ann (Raymond) Yawn of Sandy, UT; Katherine (Don) Evans of Accra, Ghana, and Karen Wecker of Redwood City, CA; nine grandchildren, a loving sister and brother and many caring nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 21 at 4 p.m. at the Fountain Valley LDS Church, 17500 Bushard, Fountain Valley, CA.
