An assailant tried to abduct a woman who police believe was working as a prostitute Saturday night, but she fought the man and escaped.

The woman, 31, was walking near 1500 South when a man whose vehicle was parked behind a pawn shop motioned her to his truck about 7 p.m. "She thought he was a customer," said Salt Lake Police Lt. Arthur Healey. When she got close, the man grabbed her by the arm and tried to pull her into the vehicle, Healey said. She broke free and ran. The man got out of the truck and caught her, but she dug her nails into his left arm and the man let go.

The woman described her attacker as a white male in his 30s. He drives a tan pickup truck and has blond hair, Healey said.
