A massive rock slide with sandstone boulders the size of houses has closed U-95 between Blanding and Natural Bridges National Monument for at least a week, officials said.
"We have crews out working on the road, but the main trouble is there are other big rocks about ready to come down. They have to take care of them first. The road will be closed at least a week," said San Juan County Deputy Sheriff Andy Peterson. He said the rocks slid down from the 500-foot-high Comb Ridge cliff about 15 miles west of Blanding late Saturday night. He said no injuries resulted, but weekend travelers were sent on detours around the slide that added up to an hour and a half travel time between Lake Powell and the Four Corners area.
