All kinds of winners will be named in a race scheduled at Liberty Park June 4 to benefit the Animal Caring Team, including the fastest politician, journalist and veterinarian.
The sixth annual "fun run" will also have categories for children, adults and wheelchair racers, ranging from a 50-yard dash for 2-to-4-year olds to a 5 kilometer race for adults, including those in wheelchairs.Less traditional categories include the "I Promise" division for local politicians; the "Bloopers" division for the local media; the "Dr. Doolittle" division for veterinarians and other animal-care professionals; and the "Pets Travel, Too" division for airline or travel industry employees.
Entry forms for the race are available at Hardee's fast-food restaurants and local veterinarians or call the Animal Caring Team at 521-4477.
The entry fee for the race, which includes a T-shirt and free giveaways, is $5 for children and $8 for adults before the race, or $6 for children and $9 for adults on the day of the race.
The children's races will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the adults will leave the starting line at 9 a.m.
The Animal Caring Team is an all-volunteer organization serving as a clearinghouse for information on lost and found animals. The group also provides referrals to animal services in the area.
