Utah has regained the No. 1 position in the NCAA women's gymnastics rankings after a week at No. 2, thanks to its 196.875-196.525 victory Friday night in the Huntsman Center over Michigan.

Michigan's score moved it up to No. 2 this week as UCLA dropped from first to third after a low-scoring win at Arizona State on Friday, 194.275-193.4.

Meanwhile, BYU moved from eighth to sixth in the poll released Sunday night as it prepares to face No. 28 Utah State in Logan at the Smith Spectrum tonight at 6:45. Southern Utah dropped one place to 17th.

The Utes lost their national lead on balance beam, dropping behind Michigan to second after a poor performance Friday, but they're still second at a 49.031 season average.

Their Friday scores of 49.50 on bars and 49.20 on vault moved them up to No. 1 in both events with a 49.225 bars average and 49.187 average on vault. Utah is sixth in floor exercise average (49.00), followed by No. 7 BYU (48.983) and No. 8 Southern Utah (48.975).

Individually, Ute sophomore Rachel Tidd remains No. 1 on bars with an average that went from 9.925 to 9.933, and freshman Ashley Postell remained second in the all-around with a 39.483 average. She moved from seventh to sixth in vaulting, tied with BYU's Marie-Helene Claveau (up from 10th) with 9.875 averages.

Utah is at No. 25 Minnesota on Saturday at 6 p.m. Southern Utah's next meet is Friday night at West Virginia.
