Leland Flinders a teacher whose name is dear to generations of music students at Murray High - will retire at the end of this year.
To celebrate Flinders' 29 years at MHS, "A Celebration of Song" has been arranged at Symphony Hall on June 4, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. "The celebration seems the most appropriate way to call attention to one man's accomplishments, reflecting a lifetime of dedication to choral music," said a Maria VanDerHeyden, spokeswoman for the event."Flinders developed a choral program at Murray High School that has earned the department a number of gold and silver medals in national competitions. Lee has a special gift for building trust and confidence among his students. Excellence came first at ever performance, and standing room only was common at annual concerts."
A program by a chorus composed of present and former choir members will be followed by a reception in the lobby. General admission is $3, with tickets for sale in advance at Day Murray Music or Murray High, or at the door.
