Jerilyn S. McIntyre, associate dean of the University of Utah College of Humanities, has been appointed as the school's associate vice president for academic affairs.

The U. Institutional Council approved the appointment Monday. McIntyre will succeed J. Boyer Jarvis, senior associate vice president for academic affairs and professor of communications, who is retiring after 32 years with the University.McIntyre will be responsible for faculty personnel matters and issues related to academic policy. She joined the U. in 1977 as an associate professor in the Department of Communication and served as acting director of the Division of Journalism and Mass Communication, 1978 to 1979.
