Park City's Madonna Harris edged Anne Weiland to win the women's criterium in the first day of Salt Lake Classic bicycle competition. Harris, who is training for the New Zealand Olympic team, won with a sprint at the end. She also won the the women's prime.

For the men, Californian and former Olympian Wayne Stetna defeated Salt Lake's George Veasy and Steve Johnson to claim victory in the veterans' category. Stetna stayed with Veasy and Johnson, who were working as a team, and won with a sprint.Matt Ohran of Provo won the junior bicycle criterium and Glen Adams edged Telrry McGinnis and Eric Schramm in the Senior 4 division.

The competition continues at noon today at Liberty Park.
