The elderly, both the 65 to 74 age group, and the very elderly, those over 75, are at special, increased risk from home fires, particularly if their mobility is limited, according to a recent study.

The study from the National Fire Protection Association here, "Patterns of Civilian Fire Casualties in Home Fires by Age and Sex, 198l-85," documents patterns of "risk" that a person will be killed or injured in a home fire. It also showed that males are at a greater risk of fire death and injury than females.
