A company that bought one of Princess Diana's gowns at auction plans to snip off its thousands of beads and fake pearls and sell them as earrings.
The earrings will be priced at $1,000 a pair and the proceeds will go to charity, Arnold Duke, an owner of International Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show Inc. of Rockville, Md., said Wednesday. His sister Roxanne Duke bought the dress for $34,500 at Christie's last month. The Dukes say they are not destroying the dress by designer Catherine Walker.
"So many people wanted to buy a dress that belonged to Diana and couldn't afford it," Roxanne Duke said. "This way they can own something that she wore."
