Two young white men were sentenced to probation and ordered to perform community service work after pleading guilty to riot charges in a racial attack during which a black man was killed.

Defendant Salvatore DeSimone, 19, pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of rioting and criminal facilitation. At the same time, court records were unsealed showing another defendant, Harry Buonocore, 19, had pleaded guilty to rioting.

The pleas left four other young white men awaiting trial on the rioting charge stemming from the attack in the Howard Beach community of Queens. A fifth defendant, Thomas Gucciardo, will be tried separately on the more serious charges of attempted murder, assault and rioting.
