After an emotional victory over the Detroit Red Wings, the Colorado Avalanche were ripe for a letdown. Peter Forsberg wouldn't let it happen.
Rushing up ice, scrambling for the puck and exhibiting the athletic ability that makes him one of the NHL's best players, Forsberg had a goal and two assists to lead the Avalanche over the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 Tuesday night.Claude Lemieux scored two goals and Patrick Roy had 21 saves, including two critical stops on a Vancouver power play.
n the third period when Colorado was clinging to a 3-2 lead.
"He's the best all-around player I've played with," Lemieux said of the 23-year-old Forsberg. "I mean no disrespect to other guys I've played with. They're great players, but he's just a step above everybody."
Lemieux provided the final margin, taking a pass from Forsberg and beating Corey Hirsch at 14:54.
In the only other game, Pittsburgh beat Buffalo 5-3.
