A Murray boy died Thursday morning at Primary Children's Medical Center after being struck by a car Wednesday night while crossing a busy road.

Terry Brett Carter, 9, was attempting to go south across 53rd South at Seventh West when he was struck by a westbound car, Murray Police Sgt. Lee Rowland said."The boy had gone into the street when the light had changed and was struck by a car in the westbound inside lane," said Rowland. "Another boy with him ran back to the curb."

Police said the boy was thrown about 40 feet from the crosswalk into the intersection and suffered severe head injuries.

He was taken to Cottonwood Hospital by ambulance and then flown by helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center.

According to police, the vehicle that struck the youth apparently had the right of way, but the investigation is continuing.
