A minor earthquake registering 3.0 on the Richter scale was recorded Friday afternoon about five miles from Strawberry Reservoir.
According to Walter Arabasz, director of the University of Utah Seismograph Stations, the quake in the remote mountainous region was registered by sensors at 2:55 p.m."It is a part of central Utah that has frequent background quakes," Arabasz said.
The quake was just strong enough to be reported, crossing a designated threshold. "We did not have any report that the earthquake was felt or reports of damage," said Arabasz.
Because of the quake's proximity to a dam, both the Bureau of Reclamation and state Office of Dam Safety were contacted. Such contacts are routine, said Arabasz.
