A U.S. Air Force sergeant from Salt Lake City accused of the unpremeditated murder of his infant son will face a court martial on May 24, the Air Force said Friday.
Sgt. Steven Webber, 36, was arrested after his 23-month-old son, Nathan, died March 9 from what unofficial reports said were head injuries.
Nathan, a twin, was rushed to a hospital March 5 by his mother from the family's home on the U.S. base at Alconbury, 70 miles north of London. He was later transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge where he died.
U.S. authorities had indicated last week the court martial would not open until June 15.
