The American Society of Criminology has decided against coming to Miami for its annual convention in 1990. The reason: too much crime.

The 1,800-member group is based in Columbus, Ohio, and made up of psychiatrists, sociologists and university professors who specialize in crime. The society turned down an invitation from the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau because of the city's reputation for "gun-toting drug dealers," the bureau said Friday.

The society said it will hold its meeting in San Francisco instead.
