Female inmates Monday will vacate an 80-bed unit originally built as a halfway house in order to move into a new 132-bed, $4.3 million Women's Correctional Facility.

Twelve women will be single-bunked in maximum security cells, while the remaining 60 will be double-bunked in medium security cells. The 33,400-square-foot prison stands south of the Young Adult Correctional Facility near I-15.The move will help alleviate the overall prison population, which recently reached an all-time high of 2,100 inmates.
