A group of mechanics at United Parcel Service in West Valley City has been honored for going 8,500 work days without an on-the-job accident dating back to April 9, 1986.

The nine mechanics provide 24-hour coverage to maintain the company's vehicle fleet. Kurt Powell, district automotive manager, said UPS stresses safety by training employees to avoid injury, but it's up to individual employees to utilize the training in their daily work.The 8,500 work days without an accident is a record for the company's district that includes Utah and Idaho. The mechanics are Donald Buckley, Terry Devereaux, Daryl Hess, Lloyd McIntosh, John Rapp, Gerald Thompson, Bryan Thomson, Lewis Warren and Brian Woodbury.
