Hikers from around the country will trek 167 miles from the south rim of the Grand Canyon to Zion National Park May 28-June 16 to raise money for the American Heart Association.

The first "Walk for a Healthy Heart" was organized in 1987 by Ruthie Pryputniewicz, Alpine, Wyo. And she and her sister, Vanya Pryputniewicz, Sarasota, Fla., put together this year's hike because they've seen the devastating effects of heart disease in their family.People interested in joining the walk are encouraged to do so. The only limitation is through the Grand Canyon, where wilderness camping is already booked up.

Those wishing to pledge contributions should send checks, made out to "Walk for a Healthy Heart," to Ruthie Pryputniewicz, P.O. Box 121, Alpine, WY 83128, or to the American Heart Association, 1550 E. Meadowbrook, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
