"Today" co-host Bryant Gumbel joked and made up with David Letterman in his first appearance on Letterman's turf since the two began feuding four years ago.

Gumbel's unannounced visit to NBC's "Late Night with David Letterman" came at the top of the show Thursday as Letterman was reading a satirical list of questions asked of prospective NBC employees.No. 7 in the countdown list was, "Any problem car-pooling with Bryant?" Band leader Paul Shaffer complained Letterman should lay off Gumbel because "he might get mad."

Letterman said he would prove Gumbel could take a joke, went to a studio door and brought Gumbel into the studio.
