A train conductor was charged with assault and battery after he allegedly pushed a teenager out of a moving train seconds before it ran over and severed the youth's leg, authorities said Monday.

David Abel, 19, of Malden, was pushed from the Amtrak commuter train Friday in Wilmington after he and his brother allegedly were refused entry by the conductor because they were rowdy, police said.Abel was listed in fair condition Monday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after undergoing surgery Friday to amputate his left leg, a hospital spokeswoman said.
