Research Industries Corp., has introduced a new line of ventricular assist device catheters, which connect patients with impaired heart function to potentially life-saving external support pumps. It was introduced at the American Thoracic Surgeons' annual meeting in Boston.

The company also introduced a line of specialized fluid delivery and monitoring sets that are attached to heart cooling catheters used during cardiovascular surgery.Company officials said the new ventricular assist catheters, know as the "femoral artery ventricular assist catheters," allow a surgeon to quickly and more conveniently connect an emergency or critically ill patient to an external temporary heart support pump without requiring a major surgical incision in the patient's chest.
