A South Jordan man faces arraignment Thursday on charges he rustled 10 horses between May and October.
Dennis R. Eller, 42, is charged with 10 counts of horse theft, a third-degree felony, in a complaint signed by 5th Circuit Judge Floyd Gowans.
Eller was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. He was later released under the supervision of Pretrial Services.
The complaint accuses Eller of stealing 10 horses from pastures in Salt Lake County.
According to Sheriff's Detective Jack Hill, 22 registered quarter horses worth more than $50,000 have been stolen.
Ten of the horses were sold by Eller to buyers in Utah and Weber counties, according to the charges. The horses were sold for an average $300, Hill said. The remaining 12 were believed sold to slaughterhouses.
Eller became a suspect last year but was not charged until after U.S. Department of Agriculture inspectors completed their investigation, Hill said.
