A 17-year-old Hillcrest High School student who killed himself Feb. 28 was not under the influence of a popular cough medicine, as was incorrectly reported in the Deseret News and other media.

Contrary to initial reports by authorities, reports from the state medical examiner say that Adam H. Olsen, Sandy, had no trace of dextromethorphan or steroids in his body. The ingredient dextromethorphan is found in Robitussin-DM, a cough syrup that has been abused by many Utah teens and that was connected to another youth's suicide at about the same time. The report shows the only chemical substance found in Olsen's bloodstream was acetaminophen - Tylenol.
