Two Salt Lake City employee unions will return to the bargaining table next week to respond to counteroffers drafted by Mayor Palmer DePaulis after the unions abandoned salary talks last month.

The two unions - the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, representing the city clerical-technical workers, and the Salt Lake Police Association, representing the uniformed patrol officers - are both expressing optimism about renewing negotiations.Neither DePaulis nor either of the unions, however, would comment on the specific content of the offers.
