Granger-Hunter Water Improvement District trustees have scheduled a May 19 public hearing to consider a provision to collect unpaid bills from customers who move within the district.
District General Manager Gerald Larson said the provision would allow the district to collect delinquent accounts from someone before providing them service at a different address within the district.Larson said the district pursued the delinquent accounts for years before discovering recently a specific provision had to be written to allow the collections.
Between 2 and 3 percent of the bills sent by the district go unpaid, Larson said. A collection agency is used to collect from customers who move outside the district's 30-square-mile service area in and around West Valley City.
Anyone interested in making comments about the proposal may do so at the hearing. Written comments may also be submitted by May 18.
