W. Mack Lawrence, vice president and chief executive officer of US WEST Communications, has been elected chairman of the board of governors of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, effective July 1.
He will succeed Wm. James Mortimer, president and publisher of the Deseret News, who is completing one year as chairman and three years as a board member. Mortimer and other outgoing board members will be honored Sept. 28 during a dinner in Little America.As chairman, Lawrence chose Mark Miller, president of Mark Miller Pontiac/Subaru, to be first vice chairman directing the work program. If board tradition holds, Miller will become chairman July 1, 1990.
Dallas H. Bradford, managing partner of Arthur Anderson & Co., was elected second chairman directing finance, a position he held in Mortimer's term.
Other members of the executive committee elected during the board's Tuesday meeting were James C. Stewart, chairman, president and chief executive officer of West One Bank, vice chairman of the Small Business/Community Development Council, and F. Wayne Chamberlain, president and chairman of the board of Murdock Travel, vice chairman of the Communication and Research Council.
Also, R.D. Cash, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Questar Corp., vice chairman of the Membership Council; David L. Gillette, attorney at law with VanCott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy, vice chairman of the Government Affairs Council; and Robert W. Keener, president and chief executive officer of Northwest Pipeline Corp., vice chairman of the Special Programs Council.
Fred S. Ball will continue as the chamber's president and chief executive officer.
