Officials and players on the Texas Rangers say they are very concerned about the whereabouts of Rick Leach.

Leach did not show up for Monday's game against New York at Yankee Stadium, and the Rangers still did not know where he was after the game."It's scary," teammate Steve Buechele said. "He's always the first one at the park. Some of the guys said they saw him earlier in the day and nothing was wrong."

The Rangers announced shortly before the game started that Leach did not appear at the park.

A spokesman for the Rangers said Leach made the trip to New York after Sunday's game in Boston and several players had seen him in the club's New York hotel.

While a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, Leach disappeared from Aug. 25 to Aug. 27, 1987, after having an argument with his wife.

A Rangers spokesman said the club called Leach's wife Monday night, but that she did not know his whereabouts.

"We've spoken to his wife and she said there was no (domestic) problem," Valentine said. "She's very concerned.
