Richfield successfully defended its 1A-2A golf title by posting an 11-stroke winning margin in the team competition of Monday's state golf tournament at the St. George Golf Club.
Chris Hyatt of Richfield took medalist honors with a single-round score of 73, two strokes better than teammate John Long and Wasatch's Brandon Bonner.On a day when temperatures hovered near the 100-degree mark, Richfield ran away with the team trophy with a total score of 305, with Wasatch second at 316. Union was another 18 strokes back at 334 for third, while Morgan (335) and Park City (350) rounded out the top five in the team competition.
The 1989 championship marked the 10th state title that the Wildcat golf team has earned. In addition to last year's crown and Richfield's first-ever golf championship during the 1975-76 school year, the school ran off seven straight titles from 1977 to 1983.
