The keynote address of Utah Valley Community College's annual women's conference will be presented by a mother of 12, an award-winning insurance salesperson, real estate agent, author, lecturer and business owner.
Carol Shelton Walker, Idaho Falls, will speak on the conference theme of "Sharing the Vision, Women Helping Women." She will, in fact, share her own laws of success and how determination is the key ingredient to achievement.The women's conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 20, in the Excelsior Hotel, Provo.
Starting in the insurance business in 1965, Walker recruited and trained 13 women, opening an all women's division. She was the first woman to become a member of the company's million dollar club in 1966 and was honored as salesperson of the year in 1967 and 1968. In 1968, her agency was selected as the company's agency of the year.
While maintaining her insurance business, Walker entered the investment real estate business. She attended eight advanced real estate schools, opened a commercial department for a firm and handled $4,000,000 worth of transactions the first year. She also acquired a National Association of Securities dealers license.
In 1977 her book, "How to Succeed in Business Without Being a Man," was published. She also became the first woman president of the sales and marketing executives of Utah.
