Kathleen Richards, a teacher and chairwoman of the business education department at Brighton High School, recently received the Western Business Education Association's Distinguished Service Award during the group's annual convention in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

The award recognizes contributions and achievements in furthering business education through teaching excellence, leadership, service and other professional work.Richards was also elected president for the coming year of the association, which includes secondary and post-secondary business educators from 10 western states, three Canadian provinces and the territories of Guam, American Samoa and the North Mariana Islands.
