Take a bow. Lift the baton. Strike a note.

The Utah Symphony Guild is tuning up for its annual fund-raiser, "A Taste of the Town." The restaurant sampling will be held Wednesday, May 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Salt Palace North Foyer. Tickets, at $25 per person, are available through the Symphony Box Office or SmithTix.More than 30 local restaurants and beverage distributors will participate in the tasting party, serving samples of their restaurant fare. A variety of cuisines will be presented-Mexican to California contemporary, Chinese to Southwestern, and French to New York deli. The array will include hors d'oeuvres, appetizers, soups, main courses, desserts and beverages.

Among the participating chefs are Marco Schlenz and Tom Guinney of Gastronomy, Inc. The well-known pair are previewing their new Italian restaurant, Baci. Opening in mid-June and adjoining the Cafe Pierpont on Pierpont Avanue, the restaurant will "anchor its menu with variety and simplicity in Italian foods." According to Schlenz, "Baci will be a place you can eat three to four nights a week. You can come in a tux or shorts to enjoy the super simple, yet affordable veal dishes, lots of pasta, and wood burner oven-baked pizzas." Baci, three years in the planning, will provide Salt Lake with New York/Chicago style Italian food.

Other participating restaurants are the American Grill, Billy Wong's, Bird's, Brumby's, Cafe Pacific, The Dodo, La Fleur de Lys, La Parisien, The Marriott, Pierre's, Pancho Villa, the Plum, Maxi's, Restaurant Newport, Rio Grande, Royce's, Ruby's Take-out and Catering, Shenenigans, Snowbird, Impressions, The Upper Crust and others.

In addition, nibbling guests will enjoy the music of the Utah Symphony's Dixieland Jazz Group.
