Salt Lake City has been selected as the site of the 1991 USA/Canada Lions International Leadership Forum that is expected to attract nearly 4,000 Lions Club members and their spouses from the United States and Canada.
Jay A. Meservy, past president of the Bountiful Lions Club, a past Utah Lions district governor and chairman of the host committee that is planning the four-day forum, said his committee started work on bringing the Lions to Utah five years ago."The forum is quite a feather in Utah's cap and a coup for our state's Lions."
The forum will be Sept. 26-29 at the Salt Palace and will involve local hotels, restaurants and entertainment facilities. "We have had a great deal of help and cooperation from the Salt Lake Visitors and Convention Bureau and its representative, Diane Binger," Meservy said.
The annual USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum is designed to teach Lions leaders how to start new clubs, build leadership and membership in their clubs, conduct fund-raising drives and complete all kinds of civic and charitable projects.
Meservy said all of Utah's approximately 110 Lions Clubs and their nearly 3,000 members will be involved in the forum activities."
Among the topics to be discussed at the forum, he said, will be drug awareness projects, women in Lionism, stress control and how Lions can become more involved in their communities.
