A sheriff has deployed a new weapon in his drug-fighting arsenal: yellow diamond-shaped signs on I-95 warning travelers of a "Narcotics Inspection Ahead."
There is no inspection, but drivers who panic and illegally turn around in the median will be stopped.Volusia County Sheriff Bob Vogel, whose unorthodox anti-drug methods have caught national attention, says the public supports his work.
"They applaud the efforts that law enforcement is making to curtail this epidemic," he said Tuesday as he unveiled the signs.
Defense attorneys and civil libertarians cried foul.
"You have to admit they're clever. But they're tricking people into committing a crime," said Ron Ross, chairman of the Orlando branch of the American Civil Liberties Union.
