As a team, Charles B. Nordhoff and James N. Hall co-authored such books as "Mutiny on the Bounty," "Men Against the Sea," "Pitcairn's Island" and "The Hurricane."

Nordhoff, born in London of American parents, became a pilot in World War I. It was while flying with the French Air Force that he first met the Iowa-born Hall. After the war, the pair first collaborated on a book about the Lafayette Flying Corps, in which both served. Later, the two men lived and worked in Tahiti.Their books "Mutiny on the Bounty" and "The Hurricane" were made into movies. Nordhoff died in 1947 and Hall in 1951.
