"Jerome Robbins' Broadway," a collection of songs from old musicals, and the comedy "The Heidi Chronicles" received Tony nominations as the best of Broadway 1988-89.

"Jerome Robbins' Broadway" earned 10 nominations, including best musical, actor and actress in a musical and best director. "Black and Blue," the tap and blues revue, also took 10 nominations, including best musical, actress, director and choreography. "Starmites," a space-age, comic-book fantasy, earned nominations for best musical, best actor and best actressThe Pulitzer Prize-winning "Heidi Chronicles," Wendy Wasserstein's comedy about the tribulations of an art historian from the late 1960s to the present, took a best-play nomination. Others in the category were "Shirley Valentine," Willy Russell's one-woman play about a bored English housewife; "Lend Me a Tenor," a farce by Ken Ludwig, and "Largely New York," a comedy with no dialogue, written, directed and performed by Bill Irwin.

Irwin also received nominations for best director and best actor. Also nominated in the acting category were Mikhail Baryshnikov, "Metamorphosis"; and Philip Bosco and Victor Garber, both for "Lend Me a Tenor.

Nominated for best actress in a play were Joan Allen, "The Heidi Chronicles"; Pauline Collins, "Shirley Valentine"; Madeline Kahn, "Born Yesterday", and Kate Nelligan, "Spoils of War."

Nominations for best revival went to four productions that have closed - "Our Town," "Ain't Misbehavin'," "Cafe Crown" and "Ah, Wilderness!"

Best actor nominees for a musical were Jason Alexander and Robert La Fosse, "Jerome Robbins' Broadway"; and Brian Lane Green and Gabriel Barre, "Starmites."

Top actress in a musical nominations went to Sharon McNight, "Starmites"; Linda Hopkins and Ruth Brown, both of "Black and Blue," and Charlotte d'Amboise, "Jerome Robbins' Broadway."

The winners will be announced June 4 during ceremonies televised by CBS. The host will be Angela Lansbury.
