Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, has introduced a resolution demanding that Greece extradite Mohammed Rashid, who investigators say has masterminded several attempts to bomb airliners.

Hatch worries Greece may not hand him over to the United States because Greece last year broke an agreement with Italy to extradite an associate of terrorist Abu Nidal."The civilized world wants to tell terrorists that the game is over. Apparently the present government of Greece only wants to tell terrorists to `have a nice day,' " Hatch said.

Hatch said that thanks to U.S. intelligence, Rashid was arrested in Greece last May. In July he was sentenced to seven months in a Greek prison because of a forged passport.

Hatch said Greek Justice Minister Vassilis Rotis makes the final decision on whether to extradite, "and his track record is abominable."

Hatch said, "We know who is responsible for the bombing of Pan Am 830 (in 1982). It is time for the government of Greece to live up to its extradition treaty so we can bring this terrorist to justice."
