A Salt Lake area woman spent several hours lost on Mount Olympus Sunday before being rescued by the Salt Lake County Sheriff's search and rescue team.
Martha Beech, 26, became separated from her husband near the base of the south face of the mountain early Sunday afternoon, said Sheriff's Lt. Lee Smith. She had hiked on ahead of her husband who had stopped to rest. When she attempted to return, she apparently took the wrong trail, bypassing her husband.Smith said Dan Beech was unable to locate his wife, finally hiking down the mountain and contacting the Sheriff's Office about 2:50 p.m. An eight-man search and rescue team aided by a dog team and a helicopter from LDS Hospital were called in to search the area.
The woman was spotted by the helicopter crew about 5:30 p.m. as she waved a yellow raincoat to attract attention. By 6:14 p.m., she had been airlifted from the mountainside. She had only minor cuts and bruises.
